Blogging profits require an effective strategy for writing with clarity, consistency and connection, partnered with powerful automation.
Here are my 7 simple secrets for blogging profits:
-
Write well.
It goes without saying that your blog post should use good spelling and grammar. Additionally, your blog posts should be interesting with thought-provoking content and organized in easy to read chunks with headers, bullets or numbers. -
Write to your ideal client, specifically.
When you write with a specific ideal client in mind, it impacts your message. Write using a conversational tone as though you’re speaking to one person (your one ideal client), at a time. Consider that one ideal client as you select the other social media platforms where your post will be shared.
Also, the content of your post should identify your search engine optimization (SEO) keywords and leverage your most favorite automation tools for posting, sharing and curating.
-
Define your frequency and consistency. They are not the same.
Frequency is the number of times you commit to posting within a certain time period while consistency refers to the regularity you commit to posting based on the frequency. Whatever you decide, stick to it to foster trust in your writing as well as reliability in how you publish new content on a regular basis.
Earlier this year when I decided to use my blog as a revenue stream, I committed to blogging at least once a week. Very quickly, I went from once a week to staying well ahead with three blog posts weekly, including guest blog posts and posts that varied from other content. I love being an overachiever!
-
Add value by sharing content around your ideal client’s core challenges, problems, opportunities and concerns.
This is an opportunity for you to mix the type of blog content you share to appeal to the different senses. For example, you might use video, audio, quotes, text only, photos and other types of media. I shared more about types of sensory posts in a previous post.
-
Leverage automation for posting across all social networks, strategically.
I’m a real fan of If This Then That (IFTTT), a simple yet effective tool that allows you to create your own recipes or applets that automate posting across several social media platforms when your blog post is published. If you’re willing to invest a bit more in automation, I highly recommend CoSchedule. I’ve just started using this comprehensive planning and scheduling tool and I love it. Using CoSchedule, you’re able to plan, schedule and automate all of your content across several social media platforms. So far, I love how intuitive it is and the ability to see everything on one calendar.
Both of these automation tools truly satisfy the under cover geek in me. #WendyYRecommends

Encourage visitors to subscribe to your blog by offering incentives, like lead magnets, free content and access to your services.
-
Blog opportunities for your ideal clients to buy from you:
a – Offer inbound links to your products, programs, events and services.
b – Offer outbound links to affiliate products and programs, e.g. – Amazon or something similar.
c – Offer links to curated content providers who use content curation tools. When it’s possible, let them know and ask them to comment on your post and share the post where they’re featured to their networks.
These simple strategies will position you for more advanced ways to monetize your blog, like:
- Becoming a brand ambassador by representing one of your favorite vendors, applications, products or services.
- Investing in paid advertisements using pay per click (PPC) tools like Google AdWords. There’s a real science to it that you can quickly master with a little time and intention.
What are some ways you’re using to monetize your blog and create bigger bottom line profits?
