Being a tenacious coach is crucial when it comes to your ability to achieve long term success. It can be challenging, brain-twisting and thought provoking.
Just the other day, I was faced with a situation that made me think long and hard about the importance of tenacity. It’s because I realize being a beast of a problem solver and a masterful coach doesn’t always present opportunities to be a tenacious coach. In fact, the situation may often call for something totally different.

Here’s what I mean…

15 years in as an entrepreneur, coach and business owner, here’s what I know for sure:

  1. Define what success looks like for you.

Not what others think success looks like for them but what you truly believe success means for you. (Tip: It ain’t fame or fortune.)

  2. Tend to personal and professional relationships that matter most.

Stay connected with the people who treat you the way you wish to be treated. Remember, you’re teaching them how to treat you with every interaction. Years ago I learned that people are in your life for a reason, season or lifetime. I’m sure you get that but here’s what you may not realize… sometimes with your growth, the people who you think are lifetime are actually reason or season and vice versa. Stay alert at all time and revisit the reason, season or lifetime relationships accordingly.

  3. Focus on what serves you well.

Sometimes your tenacity breeds stress, angst and impacts your growth. That’s never the goal so pay attention to that ebb and flow so you know what’s best for you at any given point in time. It took a long time for me to learn this lesson and it costed me dearly. This painful lesson is a really important so you don’t get sidetracked or run into pitfalls.

  4. Temper your tenacity with common sense.

Whoever said common sense is not common really knew what they were talking about! By this, I’m talking about the adage of not cutting your nose off to spite your face. This is ALWAYS a consideration. Again, notice the ebb and flow so you can manage yourself accordingly. Self-management is necessary in any situation.

  5. Sometimes the solution to the problem is to surrender.

I know how difficult this is but when you do surrender, you’re open to what unfolds and it’s SO yummy how God shows up. #WontHeDoIt

dictionary, tenacious coachI looked up tenacity in the dictionary and found a few synonymous words. Determination, perseverance, purposeful and persistence. Those words truly underscore those moment of surrender. Being a tenacious coach allows you to face challenges, solve problems, and think creatively with grace and ease.  Don’t you love that?!

Yes, something prompted this post. It’s a long story that I won’t go into in this post. Suffice it to say that I’m practicing “surrender” as a viable option and it feels great! I even crafted a new affirmation with support from my coach and longtime business friend: “I am living and breathing in the ebb and flow of life with grace and ease. I am WendyY!”

I’d love to hear your thoughts on tenacity. What say you?
