Defining choices reveal who you are.
Defining choices are those situations in life that alter your entire being, causing a paradigm shift in your mind, your body, and your spirit. Some of these choices stem from good things, and others stem from not so good things. Whatever the situation, these defining choices determine who you are and clarify the course of your life.

Everything I’ve ever done in my life has prepared me for where I am today. Still, there’s one choice I made 27 years ago to be a mom, that has truly shaped my life. This is the choice that’s brought me the greatest sense of peace and challenge with vibrant hues of purple, red, yellow and green. That was my choice to be a single mom.
My defining choice is my greatest accomplishment.
Today, my son turns 27 years old and I have been a single mom since he was born. He was diagnosed at the age of 4 with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). What that means is that there is a strong emotional component to his whole lack of attention. The ADHD often shows up as his being out of focus or easily overwhelmed by situations and scenarios.
Making the decision to be a single mom to a child with special needs was my defining choice. For me, having such an awesome and wonderful child in my life has made me a very different person. Had he not been a part of me, a part of my life, a part of my experience and my journey, I’m certain my journey would’ve been woefully different.
It has been wonderful! He has made me a better person, a better mom and even through the teenage years (where we experienced the typical tug of war kind of challenges), we enjoy a really close relationship and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.
A few weeks ago, his girlfriend and I were chatting and she sent me the greatest text. She wrote, “He is a wonderful man. I feel lucky to have met him! My daddy always told me that the way a man treats his mother will tell you a lot about him, so it didn’t take me long to figure out he is one of the good ones.” *sigh*
Happy birthday, Boo! 🙂 #proudmom #mominlove #stillmybaby
